We have been together for 2 and a half years now. I know shes the perfect girl. Easy going, friendly, cheerful, independent and careful with spendings.
A few months back, I happened to chance upon a discussion thread on proposal rings on a local forum. That triggered my scope of search to include online diamond dealers.
I had visited Lee Hwa, Soo Kee, Poh Heng, Goldheart and D’Meyson. In my opinion, Poh Heng’s ring design doesn’t looks as outstanding as the others. I was impressed by Goldheart Celestia 73 facet starburst diamond. It certainly look more brillant than the rest due to the additional number of facets. At Soo Kee, I like their ring setting for the brillant rose. Its simple, unique and nice. According to the sales girl at Soo Kee, that particular ring setting is specially for brillant rose diamonds. D’meyson’s diamonds are cheap as they don’t do a lot of advertising for it.
I was looking for a 0.4 to 0.5 caret size diamond. Searching through the recommended online diamond resellers, I’m surprised that their price is cheaper by at least 20% without the setting. Further more, online sites provide more detailed analysis of the diamond with the AGS/GIAS cert info, ASET, Ideal scope, Sarin analysis reports to sell their diamonds as they don’t have the fanciful showroom lightings to show off their diamonds. In fact, under those kind of showroom lighting at the jewellery shops, all diamond looks the same to me personally.
Being a technical person who like numbers, I tried reading up more about the 3 Cs of diamond. A forumer recommended at least an F, VVS2 when purchasing diamonds online. Reason is simple. Though a VS1 and VS2 is still considered not visible to the naked eye, there has to be some buffer for the risks involved. A great website to recommend here is http://www.proposalring.com created by a local Singaporean who was once in many of our shoes before.
After much considerations, I am left with 0.44ct F VS1 and a 0.501ct D VS1 diamond.
0.44ct F VS1
I’m concern of the small black dot near the bottom. A forumer commented that the hotspot and scintillation is not as good due to the low star ratio. Checked with WF and they said that its eye clean and the inclusion is white.
0.501ct D VS1
Overall this is good. But the price is a out of my budget if I want to have more $$ to play around for my wedding.
Tough choice. In the end, I choose the first diamond and take the risk of the black dot in the ASET which I hope should not do any difference in a small diamond. *fingers crossed*
I received my diamond in a Fedex packaging within 5 days from the date of order. Its a big packaging for a small stone.. I had to open up another 2 more boxes before I found the WhiteFlash packaging. My diamond is very nice and beautiful. No wonder girls like diamond so much. I was mermised by brillance and it looks as though its dancing under the light…..
Very satisfied with my purchase and with WhiteFlash’s service!
